Colombo is one of the prominent education zones in the western province which locates in the heart of the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo zonal education office administers and operates the education quality development of all the educational institutions situated in the suburbs of Colombo including government schools, semi government schools and private schools. There are 123 government schools, 10 semi government schools,10 private schools and 10 Pirivenas in Colombo education zone. The zone is consisted of four education divisions as Colombo North, Colombo Central, Colombo South and Borella. The main objective of the Colombo Zonal education office is to enhance the education development of the zone through the practice of new learning strategies and new programmes based on annual themes. All the subject directors, divisional directors and the in-service advisors are committed to improve the standards of the teachers of the zone and to increase the proficiency level of the students of the zone. Along with them the teachers and the principals of the schools of Colombo education zone fullfil their duties and responsibilities in a commendable way.
